Let's learn together.
My name is Jennifer Adye, and my pronouns are she/her.
I am an uninvited settler living, studying, and working on the unceded territories of the Lekwungen, Esquimalt, Songhees, and W̱SÁNEĆ nations and peoples, whose ancestral relationship with the land continues to this day. I am an older student, currently finishing up a Bachelors degree in Social Work. Before my acedemnic journey began, I worked with children for 18 years as a care provider. However, I decided to change careers as I felt a pull to be part of the helping profession. As a child I desired to be a lawyer. Now that same desire has moved to advocacy.
As a settler, I acknowledge my responsibility to participate in the creation of a collaborative, decolonized social service field that respects the dignity of each person it works with. Within this work, I will work with clients through a counselling approach that is tailored to the individual needs of each person as we learn together. I don't go into this presuming I know what's best for anyone. I see my position as one of facilitating a client's own wisdom, for they know themselves better than anyone.
I look forward to working with you in the way that you need.
